C.A.S.M.E Elects a New Board of Directors

The Caribbean Association of Small and Medium Enterprise, CASME, has elected a new Board of Directors coming out of the Annual General Meeting held in Barbados with fourteen eligible member countries in attendance. The CASME member countries were assembled for a capacity building project funded by PRO€INVEST, an EU-ACP partnership programme developed and undertaken by the European Commission on behalf of the ACP countries.

“Our membership totaling over 33,000 regional SME entities is now grappling with Globalization and post economic crisis, thus CASME as the regional umbrella organization for SME development, must build and maintain an economic bridge to support a business enabling environment for trade regionally and internationally,” said Mr. Edward Chin-Mook,(Jamaica) newly elected President of CASME . “Small Businesses are the engine of growth to any nation and the best vehicle to eradicate poverty and transform lives. SMEs provide jobs, economic development, education through trade and this delicate balance must be maintained and encouraged to support and build the economic base of the Caribbean region.” continued Mr. Chin-Mook.

A regional umbrella body, the Caribbean Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (CASME) was set up in 2005 with a secretariat service initially provided by the Barbados Small Business Association: membership was comprised of national Small Business Associations in eight states – Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Antigua, Guyana and: Belize. Since then CASME has grown to include membership representation from Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, Montserrat, Suriname, Dominica and Haiti.
