Opportunities for Barbadian Entrepreneurship in the Global Market Place

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (August, 8, 2011). “Opportunities for Barbadian Entrepreneurship in the Global Marketplace’’ will be the theme for the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation’s 9th upcoming monthly forum to be held at The Plantation Garden Theatre on august  16th from 6-8pm.

The featured speaker for the night will be Alan Smith. Mr Smith is currently the Global Head of Risk Strategy and Chief of Staff within the Global Risk function at HSBC Holdings, one of the world’s largest financial services organisations. He is responsible for the Risk Appetite, Economic Capital, Scenario Stress Testing, Risk Methodology and Pension Risk infrastructures for the Group and oversees a team of 400 people spread across the 5 regions in which HSBC operates – Asia Pacific, Europe, North and South Americas, and the Middle East. Alan has worked with HSBC for 16 years in a variety of senior finance, risk and capital management roles in the Group Management Office, in London and the Middle East. He is a member of the Global Risk Management Board and chairs the Economic Capital and Stress Testing Committees.

Prior to his current role, Alan was Group Head of Economic Capital from 2005 to 2007, and before that Head of Global Finance for HSBC’s Corporate Investment Banking and Markets Division, where he was a member of its ALM and Operational Risk Management Committees. Prior to joining HSBC, Alan worked with KPMG London from 1987 to 1994, latterly within its Financial Sector Advisory practice, advising global financial institutions on capital, risk and accounting. He started his working career with PwC (Coopers and Lybrand) in Barbados.

The main theme for the night, “Opportunities for Barbadian Entrepreneurship in the Global Marketplace’’ will cover topics relating to; The forces that are shaping the global marketplace, Global opportunities for Barbadian entrepreneurs, Opportunities in emerging markets and how Barbadian entrepreneurs can take advantage of them and Ideas for raising finance. This will present the opportunity for Barbadian entrepreneurs to access a wealth of knowledge relating to these very pertinent topics.

 And as always, refreshments will be provided afterwards along with the opportunity for networking. Another forum not to be missed!
