BSBA Staff and Industry Partners to Benefit from PED Training

Members of the Barbados Small Business Association are well positioned to benefit from a series of training workshops, currently being facilitated under the Promoting Economic Development through Partnership-Caribbean and European – PED project.  Funded by The European Union and administered under the Pro€invest Programme the training sessions were developed to strengthen various skill sets of key personnel in several business support organizations across the region to the ultimate benefit of their constituents.

Originating from Belize and Barbados, participants in the most recent leg of training held at the BSBA Head Office from 18th – 22nd March, were familiarized about the principles of Fund Raising, Financial Facilities, Project Design and Management through the instructions of Dario Marmo of Lama Development and Cooperation Agency from Italy.

Heralded as strategically linked to the progress of economic relations between the region and Europe, it is expected that the knowledge and competencies obtained in this particular component will equip organizations such as the BSBA, to access further financial and technical assistance, identified under the EPA agreement.  This assistance should strengthen the institutional capacity of the association and allow it to broaden its reach and support to individual businesses.

Diana Hernandez of the BelizeTrade stated that the weeklong training was very pertinent and invaluable to the efforts of her organization. She further mentioned, “As a relatively young player in the business development sector of Belize the training would help to better position her organization as an intermediary institution for financial assistance for entrepreneurs. “

Last week’s training was preceded by other components held in Europe and Belize and will continued on in the Dominican Republic from the 04th April 2011.  The BSBA will also be represented during the upcoming training and already plans are underway to integrate some of the core training objectives into the work plan of the association in the ensuing year for the benefit of the association’s staff and members.
